What about a sensory pathway for your playgroup?
Contech Concrete Services have brightened up the day for children at the Romsey Playgroup in Melbourne with a stunning addition to their play area
Concretebroker member Contech Concrete Services (Contech) have been battling the freezing weather in Melbourne this year and have just completed a sensory path for the Romsey Playgroup. For those not in the know sensory paths are specifically designed to provide a range of experiences for children such as different textures, colours, shapes and interesting objects. The team at Contech have been stuck in there at night under lights with heat guns and all that fantastic stuff. Never having done anything so unique they have been busy ensuring their sealer dries at night under 5 degrees. Not an easy task to say the least.
Mark Burnham, principal of Contech told Concretebroker "I had no idea what a sensory path was when they contacted us to do it. I always get all the tripped out weird jobs , just lucky I guess", Mark said. Sensory pathways can be constructed of smooth, flat, stepping stones or tree cookies with gaps wide enough for in-between planting. Stepping stones can be natural stone or concrete or made by children to include hand prints, leaf prints, shells, marbles, colored tile mosaics, or smooth glass. Glass blocks or clay bricks can be laid in the sensory pathway to add additional sensory richness and variety. Sensory pathways most often form part of a larger path system providing variety and an aesthetic appeal that affords life to the otherwise plain concrete footpath. Narrow or broad in size they often form part of the larger pathway system as opposed to a dead end.
"Its real next level," said Mark. " I’ve never done anything like it, and at times you just have to make it up as you go." But Contech's professionalism, attention to detail and desire to deliver a wonderful play area for the Romsey Playgroup, is there for all to see in these magnificent photo's of the sensory path once complete. If your in Victoria, why not call Mark and the team at Contech to liven up your childcare, daycare, pre - school or playgroup centre for the children. Sensory paths aren't just cool to look at, they're fun!
