One of the newest concrete plants in the Hunter Valley, and concretebroker member Hunter Valley Concrete, has recently employed up to 14 employees in an effort to service local demand for ready mix concrete supply and deliveries. Specialising in supplying to government infrastructure projects and large coal mines within the Hunter Valley, the plant has quickly become a favourite with many project and mine managers. At Hunter Valley Concrete 10 drivers have recently come on board together with four concrete batcher's, to run a morning and afternoon shift each day. "Most employees are from Singleton and Muswellbrook, " said the company director we touched base with. "The concrete batcher's we have employed have several years previous experience with Hanson Concrete in Cessnock, Singleton and Muswellbrook. They are are all familiar with the local area and excited about the opportunities Hunter Valley Concrete offers them to progress their careers."

Being in growth mode Hunter Valley Concrete is always looking for local staff to drive their business forward within their surrounding area. Given their close association with local councils, the Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce and mining boards, the company is committed to not only local contract procurement, but the procurement of local employees. "Helping local people get ahead is one of our primary goals," administrative manager Kathryn Hargreaves noted, "and ensuring each person is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve when they come to work, is a definite company objective." Although the newly employed local staff are more often than not experienced in the field of concrete, production management at Hunter Valley Concrete conduct frequent slump test training, driver training and general concrete practise. This onsite training is designed to lift the skillset of their concrete truck drivers from the ground up, and continuously improve their concrete knowledge, making them valuable long term employees in their designated roles.

"The vibe around the place is a good one," remarked concrete consultant Tim Harrison when quizzed. "It's all all coming together," he went on to say. "Frequent company barbecues are definitely morale building, as is the offer for staff to work flexible hours, in line with their family and personal needs. We are interested in employing people from all walks of life," said Tim, "as long as they're willing to learn". And with qualified trainers on hand at Hunter Valley Concrete to assist with the learning process, we are confident the newly employed locals are going to do plenty of that.
